Learning Goals

My DreamAt the core of ECO Charter School’s mission is the duty to create and preserve a rich learning community where ideas and inquiry are valued and rewarded. ECO’s premise is that a city’s greatest untapped resource is its children. As supported participants of the ECO Charter School community, students will grow to become Adept Learners, Community Leaders and Environmental Stewards.
  • Adept learners are inspired, capable readers, writers, thinkers, researchers, speakers and problem solvers. These students demonstrate the mastery of choice habits of mind such as inquiry, the diligent pursuit of answers, the processing of varied data and the demonstration of multiple forms of expression --- endeavors that lead children to live as literate, independently successful, responsible emerging adults.
  • Community Leaders are self-aware, self-assured, committed citizens who conduct service in their own lives, within their families and throughout their communities. Community leaders demonstrate a commitment to building and sustaining a healthy school climate. In imaginative ways, no matter how large or small, community leaders use school and larger societal resources to influence change and positively impact the school, local and global community.
  • Environmental Stewards are custodians of the Earth; they demonstrate, model and act upon an acute awareness of traditional and non-traditional environmental issues that both benefit and threaten us all. Environmental stewards establish and practice habits that support a healthy lifestyle and they participate in service projects that help the greater community and the world.

For urban majority students such as those who live in Camden, their view of the world is composed of the neighborhood in which they live. The ECO Charter School is committed to expanding this world view by providing Camden’s elementary school children safe surroundings, meaningful, educational and leadership experiences and opportunities to realize their vast potential. Excellent schools are the fertile ground in which emerging minds develop roots; these schools nourish and cultivate leaders. They are the heart of thriving communities.
